Spain’s biggest theme park is celebrating exceptional success after being awarded one of the prestigious titles in the experience industry.
The 27th annual Thea awards took place last week (November 19) which celebrated the crème de la crème of attractions and professionals in the experience industry. PortAventura World was delighted to scoop the international accolade for the ‘Award for Outstanding Achievement’ for their ride inspired by the legendary Sesame Street.
Street Mission is the Salou theme park’s first dark ride and Europe’s only attraction to be dedicated to the iconic child-favourite TV series.
The popular ride, which opened just last year, is jam-packed with exhilarating fun for fans of Sesame Street and beyond. To commence, guests are treated to a pre-show before embarking on the cutting-edge experimental 3D ride.
Using next-generation 3D mapping technology, the attraction boasts a series of animatronics and immersive tools as guests help Sesame Street legend Detective Grover complete his secret mission.

The ground-breaking immersive attraction was developed in a collaboration project by Sesame Workshop and Sally Corporation, a global leader in dark ride and animatronic design development process.
Commenting on magnificent news of achieving a Thea Award, Sergio Feder, President and CEO of PortAventura World said: “We are extremely proud of our attraction, which confirms that we are pioneers in innovation and in the application of new technologies.
“With this recognition, the company reinforces its brand value and leadership position in the theme park sector through a unique entertainment experience”
The unveiling of the Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement isn’t the only accolade PortAventura World is celebrating in 2020, earlier this month the flagship theme park operator revealed their whole resort in now carbon neutral.
In other Thea news, Blackpool Pleasure Beach scooped the top prize as Thea Classic 2020.
