With an area of 40 ha, of which 23 ha are reserved for public open space, WKCD is an asset of Hong Kong for residents and visitors to enjoy. Its vision is to create a vibrant cultural quarter located on a dramatic harbour front site in the heart of Hong Kong.
The project is conceived as a low density, low carbon development providing green space as well as 2 km of waterfront development.
Despite the endowment, the ratcheting cost of development in Hong Kong and the need to show progress during construction has increased the pressure on the delivery authority (West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA)), providing opportunities for UK Companies who can offer flexible, cost effective and innovative solutions.
Project Update
Parts of the project have now entered the building phase. Foundation works on M , the new museum for visual culture, have commenced and the WKCDA has invited EOI prequalification for the M main contract. The award is scheduled in mid-2015. Works on the Xiqu Chinese Opera House superstructure will commence soon, with the foundation works nearly completed.
