Universal Beijing Resort to Begin Trial Operations Next Year

The eagerly awaited Universal Beijing Resort will begin trail operations in the first half of 2021. In a recent news conference, Hu Jiulong, deputy head of the committee, said that the resort area has entered a stage of preparing for operation, which will run in tandem with construction. The opening date for the park is currently undecided, pending a successful trial run.

According to Hu Jiulong, the main structure of the theme park is now complete, with rides and performance facilities completed by the end of this year. Construction of the resort’s CityWalk complex has also been completed, with work starting on the decorative aspects of the complex, such as the gardens. Along with the theme park and CityWalk complex, the resort will also house two hotels, the Universal Studios Grand Hotel, and the NUO Resort Hotel.

One major area of the park yet to be constructed is the 2.8km long river, that will eventually pass through the resort. Guests will have the opportunity to travel to the theme park by boat with, on-site docks. Each hotel will also have a small dock, allowing for a unique journey to and from the park. The construction of the river is expected to be completed in November of this year.

Universal Beijing Resort has recently announced a partnership with IMAX China, a subsidiary of IMAX Corporation. The partnership will see the creation of China’s first-ever theme park destination IMAX cinema screen. The agreement will bring the IMAX and laser projection system to the Universal CityWalk Cinema, further extending the strong relationship between Universal and IMAX.

It has already been reported that the new Universal Beijing Resort will be made up of seven themed lands, including Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness, Minion Land, Transformers: Metrobase, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Jurassic World Isla Nublar, Hollywood, and Waterworld. The resort will be the home of the sixth Universal theme park worldwide, the seventh, Universal’s Epic Universe has been announced, although plans are currently on hold.
