Thea award for the Tree of Prosperity

At the 15th Annual Themed Entertainment Association’s Thea awards, the Wynn Macau’s Tree of Prosperity was awarded for its ‘outstanding achievement – casino attraction’.

The Thea awards “recognize excellence in the creation of places and experiences that qualify as themed attractions or visitor attractions” and this year the Gala took place at Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, USA on Saturday 7th March.

Out of 120 nominations, only 17 were judged worthy of the Thea accolade. The award credits named Stage Technologies as the automation supplier responsible for the ‘show control’ that brought the Tree of Prosperity to life.

The Tree is the centrepiece of the Wynn Macau’s opulent atrium, and combines meticulous artwork with sophisticated technology. Guests are treated to a dramatic spectacle regularly throughout the day, when the 70-foot-high ceiling dome, illustrated with the animal symbols of the Chinese Zodiac, opens to reveal an LED screen, which displays a themed video. The screen then parts to make way for the descent of a 30-foot-diameter chandelier and simultaneously the floor dome also splits to allow the Tree to ‘grow’ to a height of 38 feet, while emotive lighting simulates the change of seasons and the passing of time. The Tree has 60 limbs, 2,000 branches, and 98,000 leaves, all made of gold and brass and decorated with gold flakes, gold leaf and glitter.
