As Studio MB celebrates its 20th anniversary, the experience design agency is poised for an exciting new chapter. Founding Directors Craig Mann and Charlie Barr have announced ambitious plans that promise to elevate the company to unprecedented heights. With a rich portfolio that spans national and international projects, Studio MB has established itself as a powerhouse in the attractions sector.
Over the past two decades, Studio MB has crafted immersive experiences that resonate deeply with audiences. Their notable works include the poignant D-Day Story in Portsmouth and the King Richard III Centre in Leicester. Internationally, they have made waves with the Oceans gallery at China’s Guangdong Science Centre and the restoration of Kuwait’s Al Salam Palace into a national history museum. Their storytelling prowess extends to commercial projects, such as the Triumph Motorcycles visitor centre and JCB’s customer experience centre in India. These projects highlight Studio MB’s ability to adapt and innovate, ensuring that established museums and attractions remain relevant and engaging.
To bolster their capabilities, Studio MB is investing in talent and leadership. The addition of four first-class honours graduates to their design team and the appointment of Non-executive Director James Alexander and Director Jim Broughton mark a strategic expansion. Alexander’s extensive background in tourism strategy and Broughton’s senior roles at the British Museum and the Natural History Museum bring invaluable expertise to the firm.
Looking ahead, Studio MB’s expanded team is tackling an array of exciting projects. These include the Arni Magnusson Institute in Iceland, showcasing ancient manuscripts, and the St Gallen exhibition at the National Museum of Ireland. In the UK, work continues on the interpretive centre at Exeter Cathedral and the Nature and Love project at the Horniman Museum. Internationally, they are developing a museum for the National Bank of Kuwait within Foster Partners’ iconic headquarters.
Further solidifying their growth strategy, Studio MB will open a new London studio later this year, under Jim Broughton’s leadership. This expansion aims to extend their reach beyond their Edinburgh HQ. As the lead sponsor of the International Museum Constructors Congress in Edinburgh this November, Studio MB is set to engage with industry leaders, sharing their innovative vision and fostering new partnerships.
As Studio MB steps into its third decade, the company is not just looking back at its achievements but forging ahead with a renewed commitment to excellence in experience design. Their continued investment in talent, leadership, and innovative projects positions them as a leading force in the global attractions industry.
