Sandpit Creations Delivers Touring Immersive Experience For Alien: Earth In Collaboration With Experience12

Sandpit Creations has delivered a large-scale touring immersive activation for the upcoming television series Alien: Earth, working in collaboration with experience agency Experience12. The project brought the atmosphere of the iconic science fiction franchise into a live environment, allowing audiences to explore a cinematic world inspired by the series.

The activation launched at MCM Comic Con London before touring multiple locations across Europe. Designed as a fully immersive walkthrough environment, the experience placed visitors inside the wreckage of a crashed spacecraft, guiding them through a series of atmospheric spaces and narrative moments inspired by the Alien universe.

For Sandpit Creations, the project presented an opportunity to combine scenic fabrication, interactive technology and touring logistics within a single experiential installation.

Translating A Concept Into A Touring Experience

Sandpit Creations was commissioned to replicate and adapt an activation concept originally developed in the United States. The brief required the team to maintain the visual integrity of the original design while adapting the installation for European touring.

Working alongside Experience12, the studio produced the scenic build, integrated interactive systems and developed a structure capable of travelling between venues across several countries. The activation was designed to operate across six deployments in four European territories.

A key part of the process involved reengineering the installation so it could be assembled and dismantled efficiently without compromising the authenticity of the set environment. The team also ensured the installation met European safety and operational requirements while preserving the detailed aesthetic associated with the franchise.

Scenic Fabrication And Technical Integration

The experience was structured as a narrative journey beginning at the crash site of an alien spacecraft. Visitors moved through environments that included a damaged cockpit, debris-filled landscapes and enclosed corridors within the ship itself.

Sandpit Creations fabricated numerous set elements for the installation. These included a full-scale cockpit sculpture produced using CNC machining techniques, modular fuselage structures and scenic rubble environments that recreated the aftermath of a crash landing.

Interactive props and environmental details were incorporated throughout the experience. Illuminated specimen jars, alien egg containers and puzzle-based control panels contributed to the sense of exploration as visitors progressed through the installation.

A central control system coordinated lighting, sound and video playback to support the narrative. This technology was concealed within scenic elements so that the visual environment remained consistent with the immersive storyline.

Engineering For Touring Logistics

One of the most complex aspects of the project was adapting the installation for transport between venues. Strict brand guidelines limited the extent to which structural elements could be altered, meaning handling points and other logistical features had to remain hidden.

Sandpit Creations developed bespoke transport solutions to move the large scenic components while maintaining their appearance. For example, the cockpit structure was engineered with concealed modular sections that could be separated during transport and reassembled on site without visible joins.

At one venue in Paris, the cockpit had to be lowered by crane down a set of steps into a shopping centre location. The modular construction allowed the team to complete the installation while maintaining the visual integrity of the set.

Audience Engagement And Industry Collaboration

The activation generated strong engagement during its launch at MCM Comic Con London and subsequent tour stops. Post-event feedback indicated that the vast majority of visitors reported increased interest in watching the Alien: Earth series after experiencing the installation.

For Sandpit Creations, the project highlights the growing role of immersive environments within promotional campaigns for film and television properties. It also demonstrates how scenic design, fabrication and interactive technology can combine to create touring experiences capable of operating across multiple international locations.

Working with Experience12, the studio delivered a project that brought cinematic storytelling into a live environment while showcasing the technical and creative possibilities of large-scale experiential installations.
