Russia’s Sheremetyevo International Airport launches unique art exhibition for passengers

A major Russian airport has unveiled an unique art attraction to passengers.

Treating yourself to bundles of duty free, an early morning pint in the bar and indulging in fast food are usual shenanigans before boarding a flight. Now Sheremetyevo International Airport has unveiled a new form of airport experience – an acclaimed art exhibition.

Part of the airport’s Night of the Arts Campaign, the spectacular gallery includes the work of renowned Russian artist Alexander Fomin, whose art pieces already feature in the Rhine Museum, Germany and the Museum Estate of the Lientief Noblemen, Russia.

Recognised in both Asia and Europe for his creative talents, Fomin is famous for his contemporary and ultra-modern styles of painting, with impressionism and expressionism being his specialities.

Both passengers and visitors to the terminal will be able to explore Fomin’s finest pieces, which heavily features Moscow’s historical and modern architecture. The artworks on display also encapsulate a typical bustling day in the Russian capital.

As well as delving into Fomin’s masterpieces, passengers have already been treated to a performance element – in which the gifted artist showcased the creation process of a new painting. By observing, visitors were immersed in how Fomin brings his visions to life, as well as directly influencing the design of the piece of art.

Commenting on the unique setting for the exhibition Alexander Ilyin, Deputy Director General for Corporate Development at the airport said: “We are pleased to have the opportunity to present to passengers and guests of Sheremetyevo Airport an exhibition of famous Russian artist Alexander Fomin, one of the brightest representatives of contemporary national art.

Adding: “This is the first time we have held an exhibition in such a format, in which all passengers and guests can not only become acquainted with the author’s artwork, but also be involved in the creative process.”
