Potions Cauldron Group Expands with Largest Wizard Golf Attraction in Leeds

The Potions Cauldron Group, known for its wizard-themed mini golf experiences and immersive retail concepts, is expanding its footprint with its largest venue to date. The new site, set to open in late summer 2025 within Leeds’ St John’s Centre, will bring together mini golf, interactive workshops, and themed hospitality in one unified attraction model.

This latest development represents a strategic consolidation of the group’s existing strengths across its portfolio, with the Leeds venue serving as a flagship for future growth in the UK and internationally.

Integrated Visitor Experience Model

Branded as Hole in Wand Wizard Golf Leeds, the new venue will feature an intricately themed indoor mini golf course, a Potions Cauldron apothecary retail zone, potion-making workshops, and cocktail sessions tailored to adult audiences. Unique to this location will be a permanent outdoor bar area, designed as a stylised ‘wizard village’ with architectural cues reminiscent of Alpine chalets, reimagined with magical motifs.

The design strategy continues the group’s established approach of tailoring each venue to local cultural references. In Leeds, this includes motifs tied to regional folklore, such as owls and lions, which are embedded into the storytelling experience and finalised through a dramatic vortex-themed conclusion to the course.

This level of theming and operational layering demonstrates a maturing business model designed to increase dwell time, maximise secondary spend, and encourage repeat visitation—key priorities in today’s competitive leisure market.

Strategic Growth Backed by Consistent Delivery

The Potions Cauldron Group is co-led by entrepreneurs Phil Pinder and Ben Fry, whose business trajectory has included a high-profile appearance on BBC’s Dragons’ Den, where they declined a significant investment offer from Peter Jones. Their decision, described at the time as the largest single offer rejected in the show’s history, was a statement of confidence in their long-term strategic direction.

With four existing Hole in Wand locations—York, Blackpool, Chester, and Dalton Park—and further expansion plans for 2026, the company continues to build its model around experiential retail and themed entertainment.

The brand’s international ambitions are also progressing, with exports of its themed soft drink range gaining traction in the US market and additional partnerships under negotiation in Europe and the Middle East.

Expanding Product and IP Development Potential

The upcoming Leeds attraction marks a significant evolution in the group’s IP and operational platform. Introducing potion-themed cocktail classes and adult-focused programming points to a broader demographic reach and a move toward more versatile, multi-audience offerings.

The group’s success in themed F&B and retail integration also opens opportunities for collaboration with other attractions, shopping centres, or leisure destinations seeking to introduce stand-alone, experience-led units that combine retail, hospitality, and entertainment in a single footprint.

For those in the experience economy—from site operators to thematic design firms and merchandise suppliers—the Potions Cauldron Group’s approach offers a blueprint for scalable, narrative-driven venues that prioritise engagement, localisation, and brand consistency.

As it enters this next growth phase, the business continues leveraging its immersive expertise to enhance guest experience and commercial potential, creating new opportunities across the visitor attraction and leisure sectors.
