Two of the Peel X team (Jessica Wright and Laura Thompson) were excited to jet off to attend The Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona between the 4th and 6th November. After an invitation of one of our esteemed clients, Smart Dublin, the chance to promote Peel X and our innovative work at the world’s biggest and most influential event for cities and urban innovation, was too good turn down…..even if it did mean getting flights from another partner event in Edinburgh directly to Barcelona to get there!
Our partnership with the team at Smart Dublin has undoubtedly been one of the Peel X success stories of the last two years and our attendance at the Smart City Expo World Congress allowed the team the opportunity to showcase our hugely successful ‘Dublin Discovery Trails’ regional app platform which was designed and launched working closely in collaboration with their fabulous team.
It is estimated that the global population will grow to 10B by 2050, and 70% of these people will live in cities. In 40 years, we will have built as many new cities as in all of human history. The future of humanity is inevitably urban, and digitisation stands as an essential, unstoppable revolution to ensure future-proof cities focused on people and the environment. At the crossroads of tech and cities, there’s undoubtedly an opportunity for a more sustainable and equitable world where new business and collaboration models arise. In attending the event, both the Peel X and Smart Dublin teams recognise the fact that Smart City Expo is the place to catalyze a powerful urban tomorrow worldwide.
Held in Barcelona since 2011, Smart City Expo World Congress represented a great opportunity for Peel X to meet with individuals from over 140 countries. Attendees included global companies, governments and organisations, whose common aim it is to move cities across the world towards a better future.
Peel X were able to exhibit on the Smart Dublin stand and thanks to Dublin being the European Capital of Smart Tourism 2024, the stand saw a constant flow of visitors who were looking to hear more about how we are working collaboratively to produce sustainable innovative improvements across the city and region.
Delegates heard about the huge range of diverse programmes and projects across the four local authorities in Dublin, which included flagship project Dublin Discovery Trails our Augmented Reality tourism app platform developed to enable innovative, engaging, immersive and sustainable tourism experiences across the city region.
The Smart City Expo World Congress evidenced the incredible difference Peel, other industry partners, the Smart Dublin team and academic partners are making in managing and sharing resources for the benefit of Dublin citizens and communities.
We were delighted to support the Smart Dublin team alongside other industry partners, MOBY, and UTS Technologies who offer incredible innovation solutions to public services.
