ON THE SLY has recently developed music and experiential audio for two major immersive projects, each using sound to support a very different creative environment.
Working with Studio Giggle and Pixel Artworks, we contributed to Into The Ocean: Journey Beneath at ArtScience Museum Singapore and Chromatic States at Outernet London. Together, the projects show how music, sound design and interactive audio can help shape the way audiences understand space, story and emotion within live environments.
For us, audio is not a layer added at the end of production. It is part of the experience design process from the beginning. The strongest projects give sound a clear role in guiding attention, supporting atmosphere and helping audiences connect with what they see.
Creating Audio For Into The Ocean
Into The Ocean: Journey Beneath, presented at ArtScience Museum Singapore in collaboration with OceanX, runs from 6 June to 1 November 2026. The exhibition takes audiences from coral reef environments to the deep ocean through immersive storytelling, science-led content and creative technology.
As part of Studio Giggle’s work on the project, ON THE SLY developed the music, sound design and interactive audio across the exhibition. Our role was to help build an audio environment that could support discovery, scale and emotional connection within a setting most people will never encounter directly.
The ocean presents a unique creative challenge. It contains both vastness and detail, from the movement of deep water to the presence of marine life and the sense of distance beneath the surface. Our sound approach was designed to sit alongside the visual and interactive elements, helping each section of the exhibition feel connected while still carrying its own identity.
By combining composition, sound design and interactive audio techniques, we helped create a sense of place and movement across the exhibition environment. The result supports the wider aim of the project: to make ocean science and exploration feel immediate, engaging and accessible within a museum setting.
Building Emotional States At Outernet London
For Pixel Artworks’ Chromatic States at Outernet London, ON THE SLY developed the music and sound design for an immersive exploration of colour, architecture and emotion.
The experience is structured around three states: Tension, Float and Wonder. Each required a distinct sonic identity that could respond to the creative direction, visual language and movement within the space.
Using spatial audio through L-Acoustics L-ISA, we treated sound as part of the environment rather than a fixed soundtrack. Musical ideas and sonic details could move through the space, allowing the audio to support each emotional state as audiences moved through the installation.
This approach allowed us to connect composition and sound design with the physical qualities of Outernet’s digital environment. The project demonstrates how spatial audio can help turn a visual installation into a more complete sensory experience.
Audio As A Core Creative Tool
Across both projects, our role was to translate creative intention into sound that audiences could feel as well as hear. Whether working with ocean environments, colour, scale or emotion, we begin by understanding what the experience needs to communicate and how audio can support that aim.
ON THE SLY’s wider work spans live events, immersive environments and visitor experiences. We have served as music director for London’s New Year’s Eve Fireworks for the past seven years, written the opening ceremony anthem for the UEFA Europa League Final and provided music direction for Red Bull’s Tetris World Finals at Dubai Frame.
These recent projects with Studio Giggle and Pixel Artworks reflect the continued importance of audio in experience design. For ON THE SLY, music and sound are central to how audiences read a space, follow a story and remember a moment.
