Earlier this week we reported the proposed Game of Thrones studio tour was being discussed by council officials. We are now delighted to announce the £23 million Banbridge project has been given the green light to go ahead with construction.
Major economy boost
The masterminds behind the investment predict the tour will make £400 million in revenue in the next 10 years, as it aims to attract 600 thousand visitors a year. This would make the tour Northern Ireland’s third most visited attraction, just behind HMS Belfast and Giant’s Causeway.
It may seem like an ambitious goal but seeing as Game of Thrones (GoT) is a world-wide phenomenon it does seem in reach. Fans of Sky’s flagship series have already been voicing their excitement.
GoT enthusiasts will be able to explore incredible sets, experience how special efforts are made and see their favourite characters’ most famous props and costumes. The tour is said to provide a similar experience to London’s Making of Harry Potter.
The location
The attraction is to be constructed as part of an 110 thousand square foot extension at Linen Mill Studios. The studios have previously been used to film most of the series’ most iconic scenes, which makes it a fitting home for the world’s first GoT studio tour.
Council officials have spoke highly of the grand development, suggesting it will boost regional economy and increase employment within Northern Ireland. Once completed, the tour is expected to provide 200 jobs to those who live in the local area.
In other news, a Warner Bros Studio Tour dedicated to the making of Harry Potter is coming to Japan.
