Although the opening of Super Nintendo World, at Universal Studios Japan, has been delayed, progress at the park has been steady. New footage has emerged showing that the theme park is almost ready for action, unveiling a detailed look at attractions such as Bowser’s Castle, and Yoshi.
Last week it was announced that the opening of the park was postponed indefinitely, due to the worldwide coronavirus pandemic. The delay in opening the park is to allow Universal to determine a safer opening date, rather than any issues with construction, which is apparent in the latest videos to emerge from social media.
The videos show popular characters, such as Yoshi, moving around, with coins and Koopa shells spinning around, and enemies such as Thwomp crashing to the ground. The latest videos are getting fans of the video game series excited, as they are by far the clearest look at the park so far. To view the video, posted to twitter by @29QuP2, click here.
The excitement building for the park is one of the issues that Universal Studios Japan faces. Opening any theme park during a worldwide pandemic presents several challenges, however, the design and layout of Super Nintendo World, in particular, makes it exceedingly difficult to avoid contamination. The design of the park is built up and dense, with multiple attractions packed into a surprisingly small area, making social distancing measures hard to implement.
The highly anticipated attraction was originally scheduled to open in spring of this year, to coincide with the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which has been postponed until 2021.
