A mighty retailtainment destination is slated to open in Oman in the third quarter of 2021.
Majid Al Futtaim, a leading shopping and leisure operator in the Middle East, Africa and Asia (MENA) region is in the process of developing the Mall of Oman – which is set to be the country’s biggest culture and shopping destination with more than 145,000 square metres of retail space.
The mega-mall is also set to house a variety of world-class dining options, which range from fine-dining to casual outlets, along with an abundance of next-generation leisure experiences. The Mall will house Oman’s largest VOX Cinemas, a Magic Planet Family Entertainment Centre and the biggest indoor snow park in the Sultunate.
The ambitious Mall of Oman project coincides with Oman’s Vision 2040, which pioneers economic diversity by establishing a wealth of job prospects and enriching the standard of living amongst Oman’s residents.

Commenting on the ambitious project, Ghaith Shocair, Chief Executive Officer at Maijid Al Futtaim Shopping Malls said: “The tourism and retail sectors are integral to Oman’s economy and are poised to drive economic growth and contribute to diversification in the country. These objectives are aligned with Vision 2040 and we are privileged to be able to contribute to this vision as long-term partners and investors.
“By developing Mall of Oman, we continue to contribute to the growth of the local tourism industry and enable job creation for residents both during and post construction.
Adding: “A development project of this size and scope is beneficial to Oman’s citizens and residents and will positively contribute to economic and social development in the Sultanate.”
Due to the unprecedented implications of the COVID 19 pandemic the Mall of Oman’s opening date has had a series of push backs – the highly-anticipated retailtainment destination is now expected to open September 2021.
In other news in Asia, Hong Kong Disneyland has had to close for the third time due to COVID 19 concerns.
