A world-leading attraction operator has made waves unveiling a new attraction in China.
Merlin Entertainments has launched the world’s biggest attraction based on much-loved children TV series and IP Octonauts.
Housed at Shanghai’s Changfeng Ocean World, part of the world-renowned SEA LIFE Aquarium group, guests are being invited in the new Ray Bay zone. Here they can meet the legendary Octonauts characters in person, including Captain Barnacles, Kwazii and Peso.
By joining the iconic sea heroes, visitors are immersed on a thrilling and edutainment journey, as they learn about the world’s oceans and how they can help save baby rays.

The chance to be fully submerged under the aquarium’s waters in an Octonauts themed capsule is a new centrepiece at Changfeng Ocean World. Here guests will enjoy 360 degrees of the aquarium’s most angelic marine life, including cownose rays, spotted eagles and tropical fish.
The new zone is set to be a hit with the little ones, with Merlin Entertainments unveiling a range of Octonauts memorabilia to purchase in the on-site SEA LIFE Gift Shop.
Currently Changfeng Ocean World welcomes more than 500,000 visitors annually. Merlin Entertainments hope visitor numbers to increase as the acclaimed TV series release new spin-off Octonauts: Above & Beyond in the third quarter of 2021.
Designing and developing the new state-of-the-art IP experience was made possible through collaboration between Merlin Entertainments and Silvergate Media. The project has strengthened the partnership between the attraction giants, who have previously worked together on previous SEA LIFE Aquarium developments in Europe, US and Australia.
Visitors will enjoy panoramic views of the captivating sea-life which live at the aquarium, while boarding the Octopod capsule
The new experience opened December 28 2020, commenting Matthew Williams, Senior Brand Director Midway at Merlin Entertainments said: “We are delighted to have opened the world’s biggest Octonauts experience at Changfeng Ocean World in the fantastic new Ray Bay area, immersing families in a heroic underwater adventure with their favourite characters from the series.
Adding: “Octonauts is an ideal IP for SEA LIFE with fun and discovery at its core, and we look forward to working with Silvergate to share more exciting and innovative themed Octonauts experiences with families at our aquariums around the globe.”
Elsewhere, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi has unveiled new experiences as part of Family Fridays.
