One of Merseyside’s historical centrepieces is set to reveal a brand-new attraction next year – with support through the UK Government’s Culture Recovery Fund.
Situated in the beating heart of London, St George’s Hall is set to launch a next-generation digital visitor experience which will immerse the public back in time to discover the notorious activity in cells and courts through the 19th and 20th century.
The new attraction is set to combine education with entertainment, by featuring 3D augmented reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR) and artificial intelligence at the 160 year old building.
The ambitious project has been made possible thanks to a £250,000 grant supplied by National Heritage Fund and Historic England on behalf of the UK Government’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.
Officials at St George’s Hall have now teamed up with a specialist design and delivery company to executive the vision for the new experience.
It is hoped the project will secure more funding in the new year.
Commenting on the exciting instillation, Wendy Simon, Deputy Mayor of Liverpool and Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism and Events said: “We welcome investment in this much-loved landmark and are delighted by this latest funding boost.
“St George’s Hall has so many stories to tell, and we want to bring these to life in a whole new, 21st century way which will ensure the venue continues to be a must-visit destination for residents and visitors alike.
Adding: “We have high ambitions for the project and look forward to seeing it develop over the coming months.”
An open date is set to be revealed at some point in 2021.
Elsewhere, a new natural history museum is in the pipeline to enrich Oman’s tourism offer as part of Vision 2021.
