Taking place next Wednesday (February 24) on Zoom, Harry Harbottle, the former Managing Director of Timberplay Scotland will be joined by Kelda Platt, a Chartered Landscape Architect, and Alick Ford to discuss the importance of inclusive play design.
Though their passions for the subject lie in the same place, the trio bring a varied amount of expertise to the table.
Introducing the speakers
Through Harry’s rich career in the industry, he has co-authored a guide to the European Standard for the Safety of Playground Equipment, which is now available in six languages. Having spent much of his working life innovating cutting-edge play spaces across Europe, Harry also held the title of Expert in consumer and child safety by the European Commission for 20 years.
Kelda Platt also bursts with insight to share within the webinar. Kelda worked as the lead Landscape Architect on the acclaimed Catherine Street project, which transformed a small park into a garden and play facility, accessible for all abilities. As a Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute, Kelda’s diverse specialisms cover environmental and rural design.
The two will be joined by Alick Ford, a Special Needs Teacher at Castle Tower School – who knows all too well the importance of play inclusivity and the benefits. In 2017, the the special needs school moved to a new state-of-the-art, inspiring and creative site – which is credited as one of the most advanced learning environments in Northern Ireland. Drawing on Castle Tower School, Alick will share the significance of developing play facilities which cater for a range of pupils with complex needs and varied ages.
