IAAPA Release Guidelines for the Reopening of Attractions

The global association for the attractions industry has released a set of guidelines, to help attractions reopen safely, as the number of new cases of COVID-19 slows. The new member resource ‘COVID-19 Reopening Guidance: Considerations for the Global Attractions Industry’ will be a part of IAAPA’s ongoing work to support its members during the pandemic.

The guidance outlines the steps that attractions will need to take to ensure they can reopen safely, and quickly following the lifting of restrictions, when that may be. Attractions professionals from across the globe have partnered with IAAPA in order to bring the guidance to its members. Health-related guidance from government agencies and medical professionals has also helped contribute to the guidance released.

IAAPA CEO Hal McEvoy said: “The safety of our guests and employees remains the attractions industry’s number-one priority. This free global resource outlines principles and approaches to consider as you prepare to reopen once local government officials in your area remove “stay-at-home” orders, allow non-essential businesses to reopen, and say it’s safe for citizens to move around their community.”

The new resource covers several topics, including physical distancing, where attractions can calculate how many guests should be in their venue at any one time, based on size and capacity. It also looks at the use of PPE such as face masks, cleaning operations and HR. One of the key aspects of the guidance is the information it provides on managing different areas of an attraction, once reopened. Rides, exhibits, attractions and food and beverage concessions will require different guidelines, in order to reopen safely and avoid a second wave of the virus. The guidelines also outline how to communicate safety measures to guests, providing them with peace of mind.

The document is currently the first edition but will continue to be updated as the situation develops.
