Hong Kong Disneyland reopening with new princess castle as centrepiece

Hong Kong Disneyland is set to reopen tomorrow (September 25) with a new centrepiece at the heart of the enchanted park.

After three years in the making guests will finally get to see the Castle of Magical Dreams. The new focal point sits at the end of Main Street and pay tribute to all 13 Disney princesses, including Belle, Elsa, Snow White and Cinderella.

Details for the Castle of Magical Dreams were first released in 2017 as part of Hong Kong Disneyland’s ambitious plans for a £1.1 billion expansion.

The magical centrepiece replaces Sleeping Beauty’s Castle, which featured at the park since opening in 2005.

The new castle is set to appeal to younger Disney fans, as they are immersed into the magical world of where favourites from Frozen and Tangled live.

A Bibbidi-Bobbidi boutique will feature in the new attraction. Here Disney fans of all ages will be able to buy memorabilia based on the beloved princesses. The castle will also be the focal point of theme park’s nightly firework extravaganza.

Pandemic troubles

Hong Kong Disneyland has had a turbulent time through COVID-19. The park was originally closed in January due to the initial outbreak of COVID-19, before giving the greenlight to reopen by government officials in June.

However due to a rise of infections the park was forced to close again shy of a month later. After a long wait Mickey and Minnie fans are finally able to get their Disney fix again, with the park set to open again this September.

Hong Kong Disneyland has collaborated with the government to ramp up the safety measures in place. Group sizes are now capped at four and less, with guests required to wear masks throughout their visit.

Tickets need to be booked online in advance.

Elsewhere, a Nickelodeon family entertainment centre is coming to China.
