Fuzzy Lightbulb gives character worlds a life beyond the experience

Fuzzy Lightbulb has launched Retail Strategy & Campaign Management, a new service designed to help attractions, entertainment brands and character-IP owners turn merchandise into a meaningful extension of storytelling.

The character-development creative workshop argues that a guest’s relationship with a character should not end when a show finishes or a park visit is over. Its new offer brings retail strategy, merchandise development and campaign execution into the creative process, ensuring products and touchpoints feel like participation in the character’s world rather than a late commercial addition.

The approach is built around the ‘before, between and beyond’ of an experience. Merchandise can build anticipation before arrival, deepen engagement between key moments and sustain an emotional connection long after the visit. Subscription-based strategies can extend that relationship further, enabling IP owners to create recurring engagement instead of relying on a single point of sale.

Services span merchandise-line development, retail campaigns, manufacturer and supplier partnerships, and subscription-model design. The offer can scale from individual attractions, theatre productions and live shows to multi-park operators, resorts and established franchises. Fuzzy Lightbulb is already applying the thinking within existing character-IP and universe-development projects, and the launch makes it available as a standalone discipline.

Crucially, the work is shaped by the same standards as the studio’s character practice: originality, innovation, quality and strong collaboration. That means commercial planning starts with what makes an audience care about a character, then translates that emotional connection into products and campaigns that feel distinctive, useful and true to the wider universe.
