In May 2025, during the Museum and Heritage Show in London, Semantic owner Neil Lewin met Kirsty McDonald West, Director at The Guards Museum. The conversation centred on the museum’s search for a digital partner capable of delivering a new website aligned with a recent rebrand and suited to an international audience.
The Guards Museum represents nearly four centuries of history, telling the story of the five regiments of Foot Guards across active service and ceremonial roles. The ambition for the new website was clear. It needed to function as a strong educational resource while also supporting commercial objectives such as ticket sales, event promotion and venue hire.
Defining A Brief That Balanced Storytelling And Revenue
The project brief focused on creating a digital platform that could serve multiple organisational priorities without adding complexity for internal teams. A central requirement was a clearer and more intuitive ticketing journey, designed to support increased online sales and reduce friction for users.
Brand alignment was another key objective. The Guards Museum had recently introduced a distinctive new visual identity, and the website needed to reflect this consistently across all sections. Commercial presentation was also prioritised, with space required for exhibitions, events, guided tours, retail activity and venue hire, alongside the core collection content.
User experience played a central role in the planning stage. The site was required to perform effectively across mobile and desktop devices and support straightforward navigation for a wide range of user types, including international visitors and professional stakeholders.
Delivering A Practical And Scalable Website Solution
Using LOOP, Semantic delivered a structured, easy-to-navigate website that supports the museum’s public engagement and commercial aims. The platform allowed content to be organised clearly, with defined routes for ticketing, events, learning and commercial offers.
A major outcome of the project was the introduction of a content management system that places control directly in the hands of the museum’s marketing team. The CMS allows staff to update content quickly, add new material and plan future campaigns without reliance on external development support. This provides a foundation for long-term growth and responsive digital planning.
The site supports the presentation of the museum’s collection and programme in a way that aligns with institutional priorities, while maintaining a clear structure that supports visitor planning and organisational messaging.
Supporting Long-Term Digital Confidence For Museums
This project highlights the role of sector-specific digital platforms in supporting museums that balance heritage storytelling with commercial sustainability. LOOP was designed to address these requirements by offering a framework that reduces build time while maintaining clarity, consistency and operational flexibility.
For The Guards Museum, the result was a digital flagship that supports its rebrand, strengthens online engagement and provides internal teams with tools they can manage confidently. The platform is positioned to scale as the museum’s programme and digital ambitions develop over time.
