Scheduled for its premiere on February 15, 2024, the “HELLO! TOKYO FRIENDS” portal is centred on the concept of “Let’s make friends in Tokyo,” providing a space for users to broaden their social networks while indulging in the vibrant atmosphere of the city. With captivating games and AR photography features, participants have the opportunity to embark on virtual escapades in the Metaverse or venture through the actual streets of Tokyo, seamlessly blending the realms of digital and physical experiences.
Central to this initiative is the Metaverse world crafted on Roblox, a prominent immersive platform accessible across Android/iOS devices and PC (Windows/Mac OS). Named “MODERN TOKYO,” this digital rendition of the cityscape faithfully replicates renowned contemporary landmarks and attractions such as the Odaiba Area, Tokyo Tower, and Tokyo Metropolitan Government. Within this virtual realm, users are invited to engage in treasure hunts, interact with virtual characters, and discover insights into Tokyo’s diverse cultural heritage, offering a dynamic and enriching experience.
In honour of the portal’s inauguration, limited-time exclusive collaboration items showcasing beloved VTubers from Hololive productions—Sakura Miko, Mori Calliope, and Gawr Gura—will be available for acquisition. Participants can obtain these sought-after rewards by successfully fulfilling quests within the Metaverse, heightening the thrill of their virtual adventures.
Enhancing the virtual journey is the “TOKYO HUNT!” Web App, converting smartphones into portals for real-world discovery. Through visits to nine specified checkpoints dispersed across Tokyo, users have the opportunity to gather ‘Emblems’ unlocking exclusive Roblox items. Additionally, at certain checkpoints, an AR camera function enables participants to capture photos alongside cherished characters from “HELLO! TOKYO FRIENDS,” effectively connecting the virtual and physical realms.
The introduction of the “HELLO! TOKYO FRIENDS” portal aligns with the unveiling of Tokyo’s Current Sightseeing Spots 2024 survey, offering insights into the tourism inclinations of Tokyo residents.
