€150 million football theme park is coming to Spain

A popular European theme park is investing €150 million to create new attractions dedicated to football.

Spain’s PortAventura World and Spanish football league LaLiga have announced a collaboration, in which they’ll work closely together to create and deliver The Beat Challenge.

The elaborate development aims to combine football and entertainment to provide an immersive and interactive experience for the 115 million LaLiga fans. Once completed, The Beat Challenge is proposed to include:

  • LaLiga theme park based at PortAventura World resort, with all attractions incorporating a focus to football (€100 million)
  • Football-themed restaurant and shop within the park, which will be open in conjunction with the 2021/2022 LaLiga season
  • The Beat Challenge app, which will allow LaLiga fans to virtually enjoy football-filled games and experiences without being at the resort (€10 million)

A boost for Spanish football clubs

Development of The Beat Challenge is expected to be welcomed by football clubs across Spain. LaLiga and PortAventura World predict the project will boost the clubs’ revenue and improve their positioning for brand deals, as they enhance their presence on the visitor experience platform.

In the wake of COVID-19, the two leading Spanish companies recognise it is an ambitious project, but believe it is what is needed to boost the tourism, hospitality, and entertainment economy in the time of need.

“The Beat Challenge not only brings together PortAventura World with a leader in the sphere of sporting events and entertainment, but will also project PortAventura World beyond the resort, reaching homes, cities and football stadiums across Spain.” Said David Garcia, Managing Director PortAventura World.

The first phases of the project are expected to be completed late 2021.
