Dutch Theme Park, Toverland, Host a ‘Practice Evening’

The theme park announced that they have tested their own COVID-19 measures, with a small group of people. Employees and their family members tested the attractions last night, between 5-8 PM, to ensure the park could operate efficiently while protecting the wellbeing of its guests, ensuring a second spike in infections doesn’t take place.

The practise evening is expected to be an important factor in the reopening of the attraction. “The municipality will be present at the practice evening so that it can assess the effect of the measures,” stated on the theme park’s website. “It is therefore very important that you and your company follow all instructions.”

Toverland employees and their families will not be expected to pay entrance or parking fees during the test evening. Normal prices at the park will, however, apply to the catering and retail concessions. Employees and their families partaking in the test evening will be expected to adhere to the 1.5-meter distance rule within the park.

Guests will also be made aware of certain walking routes, to avoid a backlog of people in certain areas. Some cars on the rides will also be left vacant, to ensure social distancing rules are adhered to while guests enjoy the rides.

The website has states that employees will be expected to start work again on the 19th May. This isn’t, as of yet, a confirmed reopening date for the park. Following the test evening, additional measures may be taken to make the park even less susceptible to infections taking place.

The park has been closed since March 14th, but looks likely to reopen before the end of this month. “It was not an easy decision to close the doors of Toverland,” says Jean Gelissen jr., General Manager. “But we have a social obligation to comply with the measures taken by the cabinet. The health of our guests and our employees is paramount. ” The decision was taken in consultation with the municipality of Horst aan de Maas.

Toverland is a family-owned park and was first opened in 2001. The tourist attraction has since gone on to attract over 850,000 guests each year, with over 35 attractions and shows.
