DIT to host a delegation from Hong Kong at the Museums Association Conference

The Department for International Trade (DIT) has enjoyed a fruitful collaboration with the Museums Association for over a decade. Throughout that period, the DIT has helped bring an extra international dimension to the annual MA Conference by organising an annual networking event designed to bring together conference delegates and invited overseas speakers. This year will be no different. On Friday 9th November, in Belfast, the Department will be hosting a working lunch for a distinguished delegation from Hong Kong as part of a UK visit organised, and sponsored by, our colleagues at the British Council. The delegates, who will be accompanied by Antony Chan, Head of the Creative Industries team at the British Council in Hong Kong are:

  • Mr Samuel CHUI Chi Man: Assistant Curator (Exhibitions) at Hong Kong Space Museum
  • Mr Brian LAM Kwok Fai: Curator (History) at Hong Kong Heritage Museum
  • Dr Maria MOK Kar Wing: Curator (Art) for Chinese Antiquities at Hong Kong Museum of Art
  • Ms Bernadette MOK Yun Tai: Assistant Curator (Design) at Hong Kong Heritage Museum
  • Ms Ronne YUEN Yuet Po: Curator (Projects and Development), based at Hong Kong Science Museum
  • Mr CHENG Woon Tong: Curator (Art), based at Hong Kong Heritage Museum

The lunch will be hosted by Richard Parry, head of the DIT’s Experience Economy team.

“Hong Kong is a hugely important market for us” says Richard. “Many people are aware of the exciting developments being created at the West Kowloon Cultural District but perhaps there is less awareness of the dynamic and ambitious group of museums which have been exciting and engaging visitors and locals alike for many years. I am delighted that the group coming to Belfast represents that part of Hong Kong’s museum sector. I have had the pleasure of working and living in Hong Kong and thoroughly enjoy my current role supporting the UK’s experience sector access the opportunities in the market. My colleague Ant Chan has doe a fantastic job getting this group together and persuading them to spent time in the UK. Our event at the Museums Association Conference is a tremendous opportunity to meet these senior figures and to find out more about their activities and ambitions”

“I am also grateful to the Museums Association for its determination to bring an international audience to the UK – both for the Conference itself and the trade show. The museum supply industry is a fantastic asset for the UK and I have no hesitation in saying that our museum designers, interpretation specialists, tech companies and storytellers are the best in the world and I very much hope that our Hong Kong visitors will have an opportunity to enjoy thought-provoking presentations and exciting UK products and services during their trip”
