Live action, CG and illustration combine in a new immersive cinema experience with 4D effects for Land’s End and The Needles, opening in 2027.
CONDUCTR, the creative innovation studio powered by technology, has wrapped filming on A Keeper’s Tale, a new immersive cinema production for Heritage GB that brings the history, characters, and myths of two iconic British destinations to life.
Launching in 2027 as Land’s End: A Keeper’s Tale and The Needles: A Keeper’s Tale, the experience combines cinematic storytelling, captivating characters and thrilling 4D effects. Created for visitors of all ages, each brings the myths, legends and history of its destination to life, giving audiences the opportunity to discover these stories in the heart of the places that inspired them.
The production combines live action, CG and illustrative content, drawing on CONDUCTR’s in-house expertise across creative development, set design, art, media and production.
For the first filming block, CONDUCTR recreated the interior of an iconic Cornish lighthouse featured in the film at its own Manchester studio. Its creative team built the set in fine detail, with hand-drawn illustrations depicting the lighthouse keeper’s stories woven into the environment.
With removable wall panels, the adaptable set gave the film crew access to a wide range of camera angles and close-ups, allowing them to compose shots specifically for stereoscopic 3D and the accompanying 4D effects.
CONDUCTR also oversaw casting for the film’s central character, the lighthouse keeper, portrayed by Nick Cornwall (How to Train Your Dragon, 2025). Filming involved working with animals on set alongside practical rain and wind effects.
The second production block recreated the top of the lighthouse in a full studio setting, before moving to night shoots on location in the Peak District. Working across challenging terrain and weather conditions, the production brought together an extensive cast of extras and musicians, along with sequences involving fire.
Simon Mulvaney, Live Action Film Director at CONDUCTR, said:
“Productions of this scale have traditionally come with budgets that can put them out of reach for heritage attractions. We’ve had to think carefully about how we make every element, using innovative workflows and our in-house resources to make stereoscopic 3D content more affordable.
“The film brings together live action, CG and illustration, and each needs to work as part of the same story. Having our set designers, creatives, project managers and art and media teams working closely together has been a huge part of making that possible. That support has continued through the shoot, from building the lighthouse to managing on-location logistics.
“We’re now in the edit, bringing those elements together into a film designed from the outset for an immersive cinema experience with 4D effects.”
Allan Leech, CEO of Heritage GB, said:
“What excites me about this project is the mix of young British talent creating a wholly British production about two extraordinary British landmarks. Land’s End and The Needles have so many stories to tell, and this gives us a wonderful opportunity to share them with new visitors and people who have been coming for years.
“It continues our partnership with CONDUCTR and Simworx, bringing audiences into the myths, legends and history of these destinations. The combination of live action, CG and illustration is outstanding. The teams have gone above and beyond to bring this film to life, and I can’t wait for our guests to experience it in 2027.”
Terry Monkton, CEO of Simworx, said:
“Our 4D cinemas at Land’s End and The Needles have already proved hugely popular with visitors. It’s a pleasure to continue our partnership with Heritage GB and work alongside CONDUCTR on a new experience that will give guests a compelling reason to return again to these amazing iconic UK destinations.”
A Keeper’s Tale is now in post-production ahead of its 2027 launch at Land’s End and The Needles.
