Hong Kong Disneyland unveils appointment of new Managing Director

Hong Kong Disneyland (HKDL) has revealed their new Managing Director, whom will be taking over the role as we head into 2021.

As a few Disney resorts nap through the pandemic, the last quarter of 2020 has been an exceptionally busy period for HKDL. A few days ago (November 21) the popular theme park unveiled its Castle of Magical Dreams centrepiece – ahead of Michael Moriarty’s appointment as the new Managing Director at the resort.

And it seems career path makes him the perfect fit for the ambitious role – which has seen him earn 14 years leadership experience at Walt Disney Company. Through his time at the flagship theme park operator, he has overseen projects at Walt Disney World Resort (Florida) and Walt Disney Imagineering.

Michael Moriarty has lived with his family in Hong Kong for the last 15 years

Michael also worked as the Chief Financial Officer at HKDL between 2009 and 2012 – in which he helped to oversee the park’s size expand by 25 per cent, complete with new Disney ‘Lands’, attractions and rides.

Through his new role, Michael will replace Stephanie Young, who is progressing to the President of Consumer Products, Games and Publishing for Walt Disney Parks in December.

Commenting on his exciting appointment, Michael Moriarty said: “I am pleased to be returning to the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and work with the Resort team to build upon the strong foundation laid by Stephanie.

Adding: “This is an exciting time for Hong Kong Disneyland Resort with several new developments underway that underscore a commitment to Hong Kong and its people as we look to the future of this great city as a place where tourism will continue to thrive.”

Michael Moriarty will take over as Managing Director of HKDL on December 27 2020.
