Brighton i360 Reopens Under Nightcap Ltd, Marking a New Chapter for the Attraction

Brighton’s i360 has reopened following a change in ownership, marking a fresh start for the landmark attraction after financial struggles forced its closure in December. The viewing tower, which has been a fixture of the Brighton seafront since 2016, is now operated by hospitality group Nightcap Ltd. The reopening follows Brighton & Hove City Council’s decision to wipe the attraction’s £51 million debt to facilitate the sale, securing its long-term future.

A Phased Relaunch Strategy

The reopening of the i360 is part of a phased strategy to revitalise the attraction. While the observation pod, gift shop, and café are now operational, further developments are in the pipeline. Nightcap Ltd, led by entrepreneur Sarah Willingham, has announced that a bar will be introduced in the summer, alongside additional refurbishments to enhance the overall visitor experience.

The i360, standing at 162 metres, was originally designed as a landmark attraction offering panoramic views of the Sussex coastline. However, financial instability plagued its operation, culminating in its abrupt closure in late 2024, which resulted in significant job losses. The council’s intervention in early 2025 ensured the attraction could be sold to new operators, preventing its permanent shutdown.

A New Business Model for Sustainability

Nightcap Ltd’s acquisition of the i360 signals a shift towards a more commercially sustainable model. As part of the agreement, 1% of ticket sales revenue will be allocated to Brighton & Hove City Council, ensuring that the attraction contributes to the local economy.

The i360’s previous financial challenges stemmed from ambitious loan repayments that proved unsustainable under its original ownership. By resetting the financial structure and introducing a new operational strategy, Nightcap Ltd aims to secure long-term profitability while reintegrating the attraction into Brighton’s wider tourism economy.

The i360’s Role in Brighton’s Visitor Economy

Brighton’s tourism sector is a key economic driver, with attractions along the seafront playing a crucial role in drawing visitors. The i360 was originally conceived as a flagship addition to the city’s offering, complementing established landmarks such as the Royal Pavilion and Brighton Palace Pier. Despite its financial difficulties, it remains an important part of the city’s visitor experience, offering a unique perspective on the coastline and surrounding areas.

Under new ownership, the focus is on enhancing the attraction’s appeal, both for tourists and local residents. Introducing new amenities, including hospitality offerings, is expected to drive increased footfall and encourage repeat visits.

Future Outlook

With the i360 now under the management of a hospitality-led company, the emphasis is on creating a commercially viable and engaging experience for visitors. The phased approach to reopening indicates a longer-term commitment to revitalising the site rather than a quick-fix solution.

As redevelopment plans progress, industry professionals will monitor closely to see whether this new model can succeed where previous efforts failed. If successful, it could serve as a case study in repositioning struggling attractions through strategic investment and operational restructuring.
