$1 Billion Tokyo Disneyland extension set to open later this month

Tokyo Disneyland’s biggest ever expansion is set to open to the public later this month.

The 11.6-acre development adds new rides, shops and theatre shows in the Fantasyland, Tomorrowland and Toontown themed zones at an eyewatering cost of $1 billion.

Fantasyland

Belle has been a princess favourite of Disney films ever since the first release of Beauty and the Beast  in 1991 and second live-action version in 2007. Due to the magical tale’s success, Tokyo Disneyland is set to debut a new Beauty and the Beast area in Fantasyland.

Disney are welcoming fans to ‘be their guest’ (pardon the pun) as they enter the various attractions through Belle’s bustling medieval French village.

Here visitors will be fully immersed into the magical tale, as they explore Maurice’s cottage, the lively tavern and the beast’s castle, which sits on top of the village’s forest.

There will also be the opportunity for a bite to eat at Le Tavern de Gaston or purchase Disney memorabilia at Bonjour Gifts, which are each authentic to the magical story.

The main attraction is the Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast themed ride. The attraction immerses visitors into the magical story of Belle and her unlikely lover. Guests will be navigated in tea-cup style vehicles, as they enjoy the charming music taken from the fan-favourite film.

Deeper into the forest will sit a new Fantasyland Forest Theatre. The indoor auditorium will include 1500 seats and showcase 25-minute performances of ‘Mickey’s Magical Musical World’, featuring Mickey himself and his famous companions.

Tomorrowland

Over in Tomorrowland, visitors will be immersed into true joy on The Happy Ride with Baymax. The 22-vehicle ride features music, animations and swing motions, as guest’s levels of happiness are measured using a device positioned on the attraction’s ceiling.

Those with a sweet tooth will also not be disappointed, with an outdoor spaced-themed popcorn shop set to launch at Tomorrowland. ‘The Big Pop’ will feature more popcorn flavours than you could ever imagine.

Toontown

Disney fans have been visiting Mickey for years at his iconic clubhouse. Now guests can meet, get autographs, and take pictures with Minnie herself as her own Toontown Style Studio.

It’s an exciting time for Tokyo Disneyland, a statement from the park read: “The entire cast of Tokyo Disney Resort is looking forward to welcoming guests and providing an enjoyable experience at the parks.”

Most of the new attractions are set to launch September 28, with the necessary COVID-19 safety measures in place.

In other theme park news, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi have launched new attractions ahead of its 10 year anniversary.
