To commemorate the 15th anniversary since the TV series commenced its first broadcast, a nationwide touring exhibition of Shaun the Sheep is set for launch in Japan.
The first venue has been announced as the art museum ‘Eki’ Kyoto, beginning on July 30.
Shaun the Sheep, the animated TV series by multi-award winning independent animation studio Aardman, is the studio’s most globally loved show, broadcasting in over 170 territories around the world.
Since its airing in 2007, the story of Shaun and his friends’ fantastical adventures on Mossy Bottom farm has been popular with those of all ages from across the world.
The show’s protagonist, Shaun, made his first appearance in the third instalment of Aardman’s delightful animated comedy, Wallace and Gromit: A Close Shave (1995/UK) and became so popular that Aardman commenced Shaun’s own TV series.
To celebrate the 15 year anniversary of the first broadcast of the much-loved Shaun the Sheep TV series, an exciting new touring exhibition is launching to allow visitors to experience the world of Shaun the Sheep.

Richard Starzak, key animator for the Shaun the Sheep series, has created bespoke imagery and visuals for the exhibition.
Aardman was founded in 1976 by Peter Lord and David Sproxton in Bristol and quickly became popular for its entertaining stop-frame animations. In 1985, Nick Park joined the company and the popular series Wallace and Gromit was born.
The company established their own stop-motion animation technique in which puppets made of clay are filmed whilst being moved frame-by-frame. Their passion for producing high-quality work has been recognised, winning four Oscars® in the animation category at the Academy Awards®, for both short and feature-length films.
Ngaio Harding-Hill, Head of Live Attractions and Experiences at Aardman said:
“Japan has many of Shaun’s biggest and most enthusiastic fans and has always been one of the most important territories for the brand, so we’re delighted that the exhibition will kick-off our favourite Sheep’s 15th anniversary celebrations.”
The exhibition will be held at the art museum ‘Eki’ in Kyoto from July 30 to commence its nationwide tour in Japan.
