If there is one absolute certainty about the international experience economy right now, it is that it is growing – at a rate of knots.
A study conducted by Harris at the end of last year revealed over three-quarters of those questioned would prefer to spend money on experiences rather than a desired material item, and just under three quarters said they would like to increase the amount of money they spend in the experience economy during 2018. 77% of participants believe that some of their most cherished memories are from the experiences they have spent money on.
Globally, we are on the cusp of something very special, and, excitingly, the UK is at the forefront of this ‘experience revolution’ because of the diverse and vast amount of talent it houses and nurtures.
As Richard Parry, Head of the Experience Economy, for the UK’s Department for International Trade (DIT) says:
“The experience economy is a concept whose time has come.”
For this reason, Experience UK was created; to both promote British expertise internationally and to help those overseas connect with the UK’s unique and exceptional experience industry know-how.
Britain is the only government body in the world specifically working with the experience economy; offering expertise and contacts through an extensive network of specialists in the UK, in the British embassies abroad, and via other diplomatic channels around the world.
Ultimately, Experience UK and the DIT provide companies with the tools they require to be competitive on the world stage. One very important way this is done is via an online database which has details of around 400 UK-based providersâ¨of products and services relevant to the experience economy.
Their knowledge, creativity, international experience and competitive pricing helps global companies offer customers the brilliant experiences they increasingly expect.
Experience UK also produces ‘The Guide’ – a comprehensive print directory containing many of the British companies best able to serve the global experience economy, and detailing case studies of some of their most relevant and impressive work. Click here to download the current version of The Guide. A new, updated, edition of The Guide will be released in May 2018.*
The UK is a global leader in the experience economy. It is home to many world-class visitor attractions whose success is builtâ¨on the imagination, ingenuity and expertise highlighted in The Guide – skills which UK companies are keen to offer attraction developers all around the world.
Whether a project calls for feasibility, architecture, construction, exhibit design, interpretation, equipment supply or management consultancy, the UK has companies able to deliver these capabilities with experience, know-how and cultural sensitivity.
Richard Parry said: “This publication celebrates the creativity and technical brillianceâ¨of those companies and peopleâ¨in the UK who lead the world in delivering engaging and memorable experiences.”
