A mighty surf park is set to be developed in Great Manchester.
Modern Surf Manchester is expected to become a centrepiece attraction of TraffordCity, a growing tourism destination which already houses Chill Factore, LEGO Discovery Centre and Dino Adventure Golf Falls.
The attraction will be the first inland surfing experience in the region and will boast plenty of fun-filled features for all ages.
Early designs showcase a world-class surfing lagoon, pump track, fitness centre, balancing zones and interactive experiences – along with restaurant and bar facilities for guests to take some much-needed time out.
The project is expected to cost a mighty £60 million, with developer McKinney Group commencing a proposal consultation early 2021 before submitting a planning application to Trafford Council.
The acclaimed Wavegarden has been enlisted to design and developed the wave-generation for the attraction – which using next-generation technologies, will supply and tailor the perfect waves for surfing novices, learners and professionals to enjoy.

Once completed, the new tourist attraction is set to create the equivalent of 100 full time jobs to the people of Trafford and the wider area.
Commenting on the latest spectacular project, Billy McKinney, Managing Director of the McKinney Group said: “This is a really exciting project to be bringing to Greater Manchester. On the back of becoming an Olympic sport, surfing is growing in popularity and our plans will deliver perfect and consistent waves to TraffordCity and build on the region’s excellent and world leading sporting assets.
“As well as the clear financial benefits the proposals will deliver, Modern Surf Manchester will also provide significant health and well-being benefits locally. It is well-known that water-based sports can have a huge positive impact on physical and mental wellbeing, so I am looking forward to opening more opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to get involved in surfing.”
Modern Surf Manchester is slated to open in 2023.
The Greater Manchester attraction isn’t the only surf park coming to the North West, a £40 million surf project has recently been announced in Merseyside, titled Southport Cove.
