UK’s first overnight elephant stay launching at West Midlands Safari Park in 2021

A popular British animal park is set to launch exclusive lodges, which will bring the ambience of Africa to the UK, offering incredible views of exotic animals day and night.

The Looping Group who own West Midland Safari Park are currently constructing eight luxurious safari lodges nestled in the most tranquil area of the attraction. Here up to six guests will be able to eat and sleep, while getting up close to some of the world’s most incredible wildlife.

Six lodges will boast the UK’s overnight elephant experience, with an additional two lodges offering once in a lifetime views of the park’s cheetahs.

The elephant lodges have been expertly designed to immerse guests into the world’s most exotic nature, comprising of authentic African-themed thatched roofs, open-plan living areas and a large balcony, where guests will be able to sit outside and absorb the most breath-taking surroundings.

Africa will be a running theme in the new lodges

An elephant pool is planned to be constructed in front of the safari lodges, offering guests plentiful interaction with the captivating creature throughout their stay.

The cheetah lodges will also feature a floor-to-ceiling window, boasting panoramic views of the wild cat habitats from their bedrooms and lounge area.

The new package will also include complimentary breakfast and dinner, which will be prepared freshly from the park’s head chef. Guests are encouraged to eat their meals on their lodge balcony.

The elephant pool will border the lodge’s balconies

Stays at West Midland Safari Park will be offered on a weekend basis and will also include entry to the usual animal attractions on offer. Pricing is yet to be revealed.

Commenting on the development, Chris Kelly, Accommodation and Venues Director at the park said: “This amazing project will grow into something spectacular over the next four to five years, but to start with we are focussing on the elephants and cheetahs. Not only will the new lodges offer guests the opportunity to stay onsite overnight for the first time, they also allow us to create upgraded, stimulating and enriching environments for the animals.

“Conservation is at the forefront of our minds when designing and building the lodges, so as part of this project, our net biodiversity gain will increase by 30 per cent, creating more habitats such as woodlands and wildflower meadows, encouraging native wildlife. Revenue from the lodges will support improving the facilities for more of the Park’s amazing animals, as we work towards the next phases of development.”

The new experience was expected to be completed in summer this year. However, the implications of COVID 19 has meant the open date for the new safari lodges has been delayed to February 2021.
