CAP.Co, renowned for crafting adventurous and immersive places, has released a new short film highlighting one of its latest landmark projects – the Roderick Dhu Lookout Tower, perched above Loch Katrine in Scotland.
Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Trossachs, the tower draws inspiration from Sir Walter Scott’s 1810 narrative poem The Lady of the Lake, widely credited with sparking the birth of Scottish tourism. The site itself is steeped in history, once serving as a strategic lookout for the famed outlaw and clan chief Rob Roy MacGregor as he kept watch for the Redcoats.
The creation of the tower posed a formidable challenge to the CAP.Co team, combining the logistical complexity of a remote mountain build with the responsibility of honouring such a historically significant landscape.
The newly released film captures this journey – from the initial timber preparation in CAP.Co’s Norfolk workshop to the final helicopter deliveries that made the hilltop construction possible. It’s a tribute not only to the craft of building in wild places, but also to the spirit of storytelling and the natural beauty of the Scottish Highlands.
As Simon Egan of CAP.Co puts it, “In this short film, we set out to document the journey of bringing this lookout tower to life. From processing the timber to every lift and placement on the mountaintop, every step was an adventure worth sharing. We hope viewers take a moment to enjoy the breathtaking landscape and immersive soundscape we’ve created.”
