The First Ever Godzilla Museum Opens in Japan

The first-ever museum dedicated to Godzilla is now open in Japan. The exhibit is being hosted at the Nijigen no Mori amusement park on Awaji Island, close to Kobe and Naruto, and is open for a limited time. Fans of the 1954 film can view rare film props, buy exclusive merchandise, and eat Godzilla-themed food.

The exhibition has been launched by the Japanese film production company TOHO, after they launched an English website for Godzilla in May of last year. The website is complete with a ‘Monsterpedia’ section, where guests can discover more about the pop culture icon.

The exhibition is now open and will run until August 31 as part of a preview of the museum. However, the best from the attraction will be saved until later in the year. A zipline that allows guests to fly into the mouth of a 65-foot statue of the beast will open this later, according to reports. The unique opportunity will see visitors act as scientists at the Godzilla Interception Operation, in the National Godzilla Awajishima Research Centre. Guests must work together to help defeat the monster.

There will be plenty more content for guests to absorb at the new museum, however, with many famous movie props on display. There is also a large diorama for ‘Godzilla: Tokyo SOS’ and for ‘Shin Godzilla.’ There are many more figures of Godzilla on display, and for children there is a Chibi Godzilla workshop where they can create toys.

This is no word, as of yet, when the fully-fledged museum will open, although the current exhibition will continue to have a significant presence in the country until the end of the month. Guests who have visited the new attraction ten have the opportunity to try their hand at zip-lining or zorbing at the amusement park.

Tickets to the museum will cost 100 Yen for adults and 800 Yen for children. Unlike many attractions in recent times, guests aren’t required to book online before the event.
