That’s a wrap! Closing the curtain on Connecting Culture 2020

This year has brought unprecedented challenges and notions of uncertainty for most industries around the world, none more so than the museum and heritage sector. We may have not been able to meet in person (like previous Connecting Culture events) but we were delighted to be able to bring the annual conference to your screens, with two days of jam-packed online learning, insight, and networking.

Pulled together in just six weeks, Connecting Culture boasted five virtual theatres -International Opportunities, Management and Strategy, Architecture and Design, Collections Management and New Tech and Media. Together, almost 50 museum experts shared their wealth of knowledge of the current market for new museums, as well as the best practice for designing and delivering world-class visitor experiences in the current and post-COVID world. From DIT’s Head of Experience Economy Richard Parry, to best-selling Futurist Author James Wallman and President of American Alliance of Museums Laura Lott, guests of Connecting Culture 2020 were spoilt with insight from some of the top professionals within the industry.

Exclusive for UK delegates, our International Opportunities Theatre provided scope on some of the biggest and prestigious museum projects for British companies to provide their services for, in the likes of UAE, USA and Europe.

In the wake of Black Lives Matter, we also learnt from David Anderson, Director of National Museum Wales, how museums around the world are altering their collections and exhibitions to deal with cultural imbalance.

Our Architecture and Design Theatre beamed with the expertise of some of the world’s most influential and innovative designers, who shared the step-by-step process of delivering incredible museum experiences which leave a deep impact on guests.

As well as navigating through the theatres at the Conference Hall, visitors of Connecting Culture 2020 were also welcomed to our Exhibition Hall, which gave users the opportunity to interact and network with some of the world’s leading service providers to the museum and heritage sector. Some of these included world-class designers Lumsden Design, to multi-awarding winning marketing providers TravelBeat and leading multimedia guide company ATS Heritage.

2020 is certainly a year none of us will ever forget, but we hope Connecting Culture left you feeling engaged, with great enthusiasm and excitement for the future of the museum and heritage sector.

Until next time!
