An acclaimed British museum has unveiled a legendary display to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
The iconic Tate Britain has marked half a century in the visitor experience sector, with officials at the leading art museum curating a bespoke display which journeys through more than 400 years of bespoke British art.
The specialist gallery features sketch works, drawings, unpublished photos, and letters dating back from the 17th century to present day, with treasured artefacts from more than 100 of the museum’s collections on display.
A large focus on the 20th century leads the London-based exhibition. Centrepieces include L.S. Lowry’s Mill at Farnworth sketch from 1921 and recently discovered photos capturing Marlow Moss’ incredible sculptures which are thought to have been taken nearly 80 years ago.
Another focal point includes a letter dating back to 1883 from Queen Victoria’s private secretary to painter John Alfred Vinter, requesting artworks of the queen’s later infamous companion and servant John Brown.
The display also highlights the most peculiar stories of British art, including renowned Spanish artist Salvador Dalí’s iconic diving suit presentation at the 1936 International Surrealist Exhibition.
Tate Archive is 50: A Journey through the World’s Largest Archive of British Art curation process has been lead by Tate Archivist, Adrian Glew and eight of the talented museum’s Archive team.
The exhibition opened in October 2020, with the necessary social distancing measures in place amid the COVID 19 pandemic.
UPDATE: Due to the national lockdown imposed by the UK Government, Tate Britain is set to close November 4 for at least four weeks. The museum will work in line with government guidance to reopen when its safe to do so.
To ensure museum visitors aren’t missing out on experiences, Tate has unveiled various online platforms and virtual services throughout November which guests can access from the comfort of their own home.
