It is an exciting time for Nintendo lovers as Universal Studios in Japan is planning on launching its Super Nintendo World or ‘Mushroom Kingdom’ attraction in the spring of 2020.
Universal Parks and Resorts CEO Tom Williams confirmed earlier this month that the park will launch two rides at the very start – a Super Mario Kart experience and a ride called ‘Yoshi’s Adventure’.
Recently leaked photographs of the park under construction have 1990 fans of the Nintendo games bursting with excitement at the thought. The rides in the park will be based on beloved Nintendo characters.
So far, Universal Studios has not revealed details of how exactly the Mario cart ride will work. However, some details of Yoshi’s Adventure have been leaked. Yoshi’s Adventure is basically a slow-moving roller coaster ride, shaped like a Yoshi.
According to the leaked details, the roller coaster will allow ride-goers to ride around the mountain and look down at the entire park. The ride also comprises of over 40 animatronics, so it is safe to assume that Universal Studios has spared no expenses in this regard.
These two attractions, along with the castles of ‘Bowser’ and ‘Peach’ will be part of the ‘first phase of the park’. Based on leaked models, it is speculated that a Donkey Kong-inspired jungle theme park is a planned future attraction.
Of the planned attractions so far, Williams said:
“It’s the best and we’ve tested them all, and they’re killers. It’s a great line-up. It takes it to the whole new level. It’s going to redefine what a park experience is like. It really is special”.
Anyone entering the gates of the Mushroom Kingdom will be given a red magnetic wrist strap or bracelet with the Mario symbol on it. According to Nintendo, this strap will create a ‘fully interactive experience’.
As visitors play their way through the park, the strap will send ride and game scores back to their consoles at home. Progress will be saved on those wrist bands for whenever next they choose to visit.
Williams said that although Japan is the first destination for the Super Nintendo World, it is not the last. Orlando and Los Angeles in the United States have been announced as potential locations for these parks. When asked about when these parks will be launched in the United States, Williams said: “We’re bringing it. You can count on it”.
Construction of the park started off back in October 2018, and the plan was to have it ready in time for the Tokyo Olympics (perhaps to maximize profit). While previous construction photographs did not reveal much, the latest photos showing that the Mushroom Kingdom is finally coming together is pretty exciting for Nintendo fans.
