A world-leading themed entertainment specialist has unveiled a mighty international design competition for freelance creatives in the experience design sector.
Storyland Studios has launched the first Storyland Design Challenge, where freelancers from all over the world are invited to pitch their bespoke design concepts for immersive and story-based experiences.
Budding designers who are looking to make their mark in the themed entertainment world are encouraged to take part – especially as travel barriers enforced by the pandemic has made networking exceptionally difficult.
Jakob Fagerström, an independent experience designer and art director explains the benefits of freelancers taking part in the Challenge:
“The crucial first step to one day landing that dream job is just getting the opportunity to be heard. If you don’t have any natural touch points within the industry, that can feel almost impossible.
“This makes every chance to connect and showcase invaluable for any designer who has a big dream but not as big of a network.”
The prize
The competition’s first place will be awarded an exceptional $20,000 in prize money. The winner will also be given the opportunity to pitch their concept to several industry veterans at a spotlight session – taking place at Blooloop V-Expo in late 2021.
Along with Mel McGowan, Storyland Studios CCO and Disney Imagineering veteran, the panel includes:
Michael Mack (CEO of Europa Park and Mack NeXT)
Andreas Andersen (CEO and President of Liseberg Group)
Doris Hardoon (Executive Creative Director and former Disney Imagineer)
Laurence Beckers (Creative Director at Alterface)
Rachel Read (Founder and co-CEO of Blooloop)
Early registration is now open
Early registration is open until March 31 in which participants may enter free of charge. The deadline for standard registration is set until June 4.
After the concepts have been reviewed, three finalists will be invited to present their ideas during the annual Storyland Innovation webinar.
