Social distance success for Rotterdam Ahoy drive-thru art exhibition

An unique art drive-thru exhibition is enjoying social distance success, selling out of all pre-booked admissions for the 21-day showcase.

The Rotterdam exhibition invites visitors to drive their own or borrow an electric vehicle, as they journey through the 33 thousand square-feet area, which boasts the work of world-renowned artists. Some of these include:

  • Ted Noten
  • Oskar Kokoschka
  • Bas Jan Ader
  • Melanie Smith
  • Paul McCarthy
  • Bruce Nauman

There are also 50 artworks on display taken from the famous Boijman’s collection, which range from the 1400s to 2020.  The exhibition is collaborative showcase by Van Beuningen and Rotterdam Ahoy.

Not only does navigating the attraction by car provide a unique experience, it also allows guests to enjoy the high-profile masterpieces from a safe distance, away from other visiting parties. The Dutch Government is currently enforcing a 1.5 metre guideline due to COVID-19.

Not got an electric car?

It is estimated that only 15 per cent in The Netherlands have an electric car. Therefore, exhibition organisers have teamed up with Rotterdam dealerships BMW and MINI to offer their vehicles as part of their experience. Those who are interested will be required to take a quick test drive and sign a terms and conditions agreement, before taking the car into the exhibition.

For drivers who do have an electric car, all that is left to do is book a timeslot online. The Ahoy Rotterdam has enough space to welcome 750 electric cars per day.

Are drive-thru exhibitions the future of visitor experiences?
