Sky Castle is a family entertainment centre that is set to open later this year. The entertainment centre is situated inside New Horizon Mall in Balzac, which will be its third anchor tenant – and the largest to date.
The entertainment centre will join anchor tenants Prairie Horizon Fresh Market. Prairie Horizon fresh market has been billed as north Calgary’s largest indoor fresh market. The market covers an area of 15,000-plus square feet and has departmental stores featuring unique products.
The entertainment centre will occupy an area of 34,000 square feet and will be on the second floor of the mall. It will feature:
- A climbing zone
- A little kids mini-town
- Interactive games
- A mini-carousel
- A snow castle
- A Ferris wheel
- A doughnut slide
- Multiple slides
- A toddler jumping zone
- A castle stage
Sky Castle has signed a long term lease with New Horizon Mall. New Horizon Mall Inc. owns 30 per cent of the retail space and now has 86 per cent of its space leased with another 7 per cent that is under negotiations for retail usage. 53 per cent of the mall has been leased, while more than 100 stores are set to open, which will cover an area of 110,100 square feet.
Scott Smith, General Manager of New Horizon Mall said “We are creating a community of local entrepreneurs and small businesses. The Sky Castle family entertainment centre (FEC) will be welcomed by our community.”
The mall is situated 20 minutes north of downtown Calgary and across from CrossIron Mills in Rocky View County. It comprises of unique stores, an entertainment stage and a food court with 300 plus seats. The mall also has indoor and outdoor parking areas.
Ross Cannata of New Horizon Mall Inc. said in the release “Sky Castle is a game-changer for New Horizon Mall. There was a lot of interest in this space from many different organizations but we wanted a strong anchor tenant that will attract shoppers and families and we are ecstatic to have Sky Castle on board. With more than 53 per cent of all retail space in the mall leased, Prairie Horizon Fresh Market opening in early March, and a massive family entertainment centre, New Horizon Mall now has significant momentum”.
Stores in the mall sold and the owners either operate their own store or lease them to another operator. 98 per cent of the stores have been sold after the mall had a slow start. It continues to be a work in progress but it seems to be moving in the right direction.
The construction of the mall was completed in 2018 by Ledcor Construction and was fully funded. The visionary retail experience offers the exotic, vibrant appeal of an international mall set in the comfort of a contemporary architectural masterpiece.
