A leading Tokyo theme park is gearing up to welcome guests again after a nostalgic makeover.
Seibuen Amusement Park in Saitama has undergone refurbishment works since November 2020, with the new theme designed to immersed guests into the bustling Tokyo landscape of the 1960s.
Officials of the 70 year old park have carefully enlisted an abundance of attractions and centrepieces which are set to whisk guests into past generations. A historical tram which famously navigated through the streets of the Nagasaki region is set to be a focal point.
The park will also showcase a series of nostalgic performances and delicious cuisine which was once staple in Japan, including croquettes and spaghetti napatolitan.
Similar to Disney Resorts’ iconic Main Street, the revamped park will also include a traditional Shotengai (shopping street) were guests will be able to purchase souvenirs and memorabilia from times gone by.
Not only will be visitors be treated to a new theme, a new experience designed by world-renowned Japanese director Takashi Yamazaki is set to be launched to coincide with the park’s grand reopening.
The attraction, which has been teased to include cutting-edge visual effects, will be housed in a new building which has been carefully created to emulate a typical Japanese cinema, one of the most popular recreational activities for Japanese residents throughout the sixties.
The extensive makeover is expected to cost £70 million to be completed through a collaboration project between the Seiby Railway co and the renowned Tsyoshi Marioka, who have already worked with University Studios Japan on previous projects.
Seibuen Amusement Park Park is on track to reopen and reveal the new look in Spring 2021.
In other Japan theme park news, the launch of Super Nintendo World scheduled to take place February 4 has been postponed. The announcement came as the Osaka region, which housed Universal Studios enters a state of emergency amid a surge in COVID 19 cases.
Elsewhere, the world’s biggest indoor snow park is set to open at Abu Dhabi’s dream mall.
