Scare City Expands Halloween Format With Eight New Horror Zones

Scare City will return to the former Camelot Theme Park in Lancashire this Halloween with eight new horror zones, adding fresh content to one of the North West’s established seasonal scare events.

The event has operated at the abandoned theme park site for the past five years, using the setting to support a large-scale horror format that combines environmental storytelling, live actors, themed routes and food and beverage activity. For the attractions and live events sector, its return highlights the continued commercial value of Halloween programming in non-traditional venues.

Rather than presenting a single linear storyline, this year’s edition will move visitors through a series of separate horror environments. The approach gives the operator scope to vary tone, pacing and scenic treatment across the wider site, while also allowing individual zones to carry distinct themes and characters.

Scare City’s use of a disused theme park remains central to its appeal from an operational and creative perspective. Former ride areas, pathways and existing structures can be adapted into scare zones, creating a setting that would be difficult to replicate in a standard indoor venue.

Eight New Zones Add Content Depth

The 2026 edition introduces a broad mix of horror concepts. Cutthroat & Co draws on the setting of a Victorian barber shop, with a polished façade hiding darker activity beneath. The Devils Orphanage moves the tone towards psychological discomfort, using nursery rhymes, children’s laughter and institutional imagery to build tension.

The Correction Facility will place guests inside the former Camelot Asylum, adding to the site’s existing abandoned infrastructure. The Settlement presents a post-civilisation setting, while Thornveil Coven shifts the experience into a cursed forest controlled by an ancient circle.

Additional content includes a military bunker concept where the dead have returned, adding another genre reference to the overall line-up. CarniValley, the only returning zone from previous editions, has also been reworked for the new programme.

This structure demonstrates how scare event operators can refresh a returning attraction without changing the venue itself. By replacing or reconfiguring zones, organisers can create a new proposition for repeat audiences while retaining the efficiencies of an established site, route and operating model.

Food And Beverage As Part Of The Story

This year’s Scare City will also include Rest Bite, a new food and bar concept themed as a retro diner and arcade. Rather than treating hospitality as a separate service area, the concept places food and beverage within the wider horror environment through vampire and circus-inspired characters.

For operators, this is a useful example of how secondary spend can be integrated into the guest experience. Themed hospitality can extend dwell time, support additional revenue and maintain atmosphere between scare sequences.

As Halloween events become more competitive, food and beverage design is increasingly important. Venues that link hospitality to the central theme can create stronger commercial performance while maintaining consistency across the event.

Seasonal Events Continue To Mature

Scare City’s return reflects the wider growth of Halloween as a major trading period for visitor attractions, live entertainment producers and destination venues. Large-scale scare events now frequently combine theatrical design, live performance, route management, bar operations and repeatable content strategies.

For companies working in scenic production, lighting, sound, costume, make-up, site operations and themed hospitality, the format presents clear opportunities. It also shows how underused or dormant spaces can be reactivated through temporary event models.

Further details on Scare City’s remaining content are expected to follow, but the confirmed zone line-up already points to a larger, more varied edition for the coming Halloween season.
