AAM’s Annual Meeting and MuseumExpo, the world’s largest museum conference, has gone virtual. The event will now take place on the 18th May and 1st-4th June, online, with registration now open to secure your place at the expo.
The new format brings a new theme, reflecting the current global crisis. ‘Radical Reimagining’ asks guests what decisions can be made to not only help us overcome the immediate threat, but help us rebuild a more sustainable, inclusive, and more powerful museum field.
Spanning over 5 days, the virtual event will include keynote speakers, over 30 breakout sessions, a virtual exhibit hall, and online networking events to connect with museum professionals from around the globe. Speakers include Marina Gorbis – Executive Director, Institute for the Future; Christy Coleman – Executive Director, Jamestown Yorktown Foundation; and Lonnie G. Bunch III – 14th Secretary of the Smithsonian.
The breakout sessions tackle a range of challenges, many stemming from the spread of COVID-19. ‘Changing Expectations, Changing Experiences’ takes a look at the audience’s attitude towards culture, and the impact of COVID-19 on wants, needs and fears of the “new normal” world. ‘The Role of the Board In Times of Crisis’ responds to the impacts of COVID-19, where many museums are now faced with the challenge to serve their communities while trying to ensure their own future.
The Annual Meeting and MuseumExpo were originally meant to take place in San Francisco for the 17th-20th May, but due to COVID-19, the event was postponed until 2021. However, AAM has experimented with a new way to connect, providing a meaningful online experience for guests, ensuring those who were originally expected to attend, don’t miss out.
