Nickelodeon Family Entertainment Centre launching as part of £647 million Mall of China development

Family entertainment centres continue to flourish in popularity around the world, with China announcing the latest addition.

China Leisure Development Co. (CLDC) has teamed up with ViacomCBS to curate a Nickelodeon entertainment centre in Shenzhen China.

The new attraction is part of the £647 million Mall of China development which is planned to launch later this year.

The new family entertainment centre will be titled Nickelodeon Playtime, which will allow fans of the US channel to bond with some of their favourite characters in person and delve into the fantasy child-like worlds in which they live in.

The new family entertainment centre will comprise of the following zones based on the most popular Nickelodeon shows:

  • Paw Patrol
  • SpongeBob SquarePants
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
  • Dora the Explorer

Kids will be spoilt with 29 attractions on offer, including an indoor rollercoaster and a drop tower, based on the adventures of their most beloved Nickelodeon characters.

Nickelodeon Playtime will also feature a character-themed café and a gift shop, in which families can purchase memorabilia based on their favourite TV series.

Jack Rouse Associates (JRA) are behind the master-planning and concept development of the attraction, who have already contributed to the design of Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Crayola Land Pennsylvania, and Space Center Houston.

Commenting on the new development Linda Dong of CLDC told Interpark: “We are thrilled to be partnering with Nickelodeon to bring their highly popular brands to life in an FEC format. We see rapid growth in family entertainment spending in Chia and strong demand from shopping centres for experimental products.

“Nickelodeon Playtime is part of our strategy to capitalise on this trend.”

The family entertainment centre industry is booming, with a report by Allied Market Research forecasting the industry to be worth nearly 15 million by 2025, up from 9.3 million in 2019. These predictions were made Pre-COVID, however with the likes of Nickelodeon Playtime popping up we cannot see this new type of visitor experience slowing down anytime soon.

Shenzen’s Nickelodeon Playtime is expected to open December 2020.

In other news, a new family entertainment centre is set to launch at the world’s biggest shopping mall.
