Gibraltar Wine Vaults Immersive Experience Opens this Spring

Casson Mann and BECK developed an innovative concept design for a brief put forward by Gibraltar Wine Vaults. The vision was to create a high quality and emotionally engaging attraction that allowed an enjoyable and immersive experience for a wide range of visitors.

The aim was to highlight key episodes in Gibraltar’s extraordinary history, emphasising the importance of the exhibition’s site, the Rock of Gibraltar, to many of these stories. Integral to the development of the exhibition narrative was the celebration of Gibraltar’s importance as a British trading post; its particular connection to wine and its role in worldwide events.

The team organised exhibition content chrono-thematically. There is a chronological backbone to the exhibition’s overarching story, making it easier for visitors to orientate themselves in space and time. However, the presentation is thematic overall, so visitors can dip in and out as they wish.

The exhibition’s approach to storytelling is popular, accessible and direct, with our aim being to entertain, engage and inspire our visitors with the compelling story of Gibraltar’s history.

Working to concepts and interpretation provided by Casson Mann, BECK is working alongside the creative team to develop the detailed design, fabrication and installation of the five exhibit zones and a feature bar.

Opening in Spring 2019, each zone features different historical themes, telling the fascinating stories of the Siege of Gibraltar, Admiral Lord Nelson’s connection with Gibraltar and the battle of Trafalgar, Gibraltar’s importance for international trade, Gibraltar’s Neolithic past and role in WW2. The exhibits feature multi-media shows with complex projection mapping onto 3D forms. Our scope includes bespoke setworks and joinery, AV Hardware, content and asset research, graphic artworking and production, artefact sourcing, fabrication of replica artefacts, model making, multi-media software, display cases and exhibit lighting.
