Netherlands Pavilion at Expo 2025: A Dawn of Renewable Innovation

The Netherlands Pavilion for Expo 2025 Osaka, under the theme “Common Ground: creating a new dawn together,” is an architectural embodiment of innovation and sustainability. The pavilion design aims to present a future where clean, unlimited, and accessible energy is the norm, harnessing the power of water to create renewable energy for all.

The pavilion, a product of a collaborative effort by the consortium ‘A New Dawn,’ which includes engineering consultancy DGMR, architecture firm RAU, Japanese construction company Asanuma, and experience design studio Tellart, showcases the Netherlands’ commitment to tackling global challenges. It features a fully circular concept, integrating materials and energy sources that are zero-emission and renewable.

At the heart of the pavilion’s design is an anthropogenic sun, symbolizing the infinite possibilities of clean energy. The structure itself is designed to be completely circular and is planned to be capable of being dismantled and reassembled, emphasizing the Dutch approach to sustainability and adaptability.

The pavilion is not just an architectural marvel but also a nexus for international cooperation. It is envisioned as a space where individuals, businesses, governments, and knowledge institutions from around the world can come together to share expertise and develop joint solutions to the pressing challenges of climate change and health.

Expo 2025 Osaka offers an opportunity for the Netherlands to further its economic and cultural ties with Japan, the world’s third-largest economy and an important trade partner. In 2022, the Netherlands exported goods worth nearly €4.3 billion to Japan, and in return, Japan exported €7.4 billion worth of goods to the Netherlands. The Expo is a platform for the Netherlands to highlight opportunities for collaboration in sectors such as energy transition, agriculture and horticulture, life sciences and health, and digital transformation.

The Netherlands Pavilion for Expo 2025 Osaka is set to be a testament to the nation’s pioneering spirit in sustainable design and a beacon of hope for a resilient future on common ground.
