Manchester Printworks £9 Million Transformation

The iconic Manchester venue has been granted planning permission for a £9 million refurbishment, that will see the Printworks undergo a radical transformation. The investment will see vast improvements made to the aesthetics of the building, that include new entrances, lighting and signage to cater for visitors attending both at night and daytime.

The redevelopment plans also include the introduction of Europe’s largest digital signage screen. Measuring at 1,300 square metres, the new digital screen will provide a fully immersive, visual and audio experience. The digital ceiling will also be accompanied by a large interactive screen situated in the central Pump Yard, to provide a platform for social gaming, amongst other activities. The introduction of these screens will pave the way for Printworks to gain international recognition as a progressive entertainment destination.

The owners of the Printworks, DTZ Investors, are committed to redeveloping the site for the first time since the venue opened 20 years ago. Ben Haller at DTZ Investors, said: “The granting of the planning permission marks a huge milestone for Printworks as a landmark building within Manchester city centre for over 20 years. We have been sympathetic to the building’s heritage façade, whilst also recognising the need for technology and innovation to ensure that Printworks responds to occupier trends. Enhancements to the physical environment, alongside our latest restaurant and competitive socialising offer, will give customers a best in class immersive and memorable experience adding to the scheme’s international reputation in the leisure market.” DTZ Investors purchased the Printworks site in February 2017 for £108m.

In recent years the inclusion of activities such as Treetop Adventure Golf and Escape Reality has helped to attract increasing numbers of visitors, and the redevelopment will soon see these activities joined by ten pin bowling, amongst others. The venue attracts more than 8million visitors per year. Once complete, Printworks will elevate its position as a pioneer in the international leisure market and will be better positioned to cater for its growing round the clock customers whilst further attracting families and an international clientele seeking world-class entertainment experiences.

Printworks will remain open and trading during the refurbishment, with the schedule structured to ensure minimum disruption to its venues and visitors. You can watch an animated video displaying the development plans by clicking here.
