A significant fire broke out at a leading West Midlands theme park last night (December 15).
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to Drayton Manor at around 23:00 after a large fire took hold of the popular Thomas Land zone of the resort.
The fire service was able to limit the blaze to one building, ultimately preventing the fire spreading to other areas of the park including its 15 acre zoo, hotel and hundreds of rides and attractions.
Though the extent of the damage is not yet known, it is hoped it won’t cause too much disruption to Drayton Manor’s operations. Due to Tier 3 COVID 19 restrictions, the theme park is currently closed leaving the attraction having to cancel its Christmas festivities and remain shut for the remainder of the year.
On Twitter, Drayton Manor thanked Staffordshire Frire and Rescue Service for their swift response, with no injuries to people or the 100 animals at the park.
The blaze isn’t the only turbulence endured by Drayton Manor in 2020. As well as the impacts of the pandemic, the theme park was significantly damaged my Storm Dennis floods leaving the theme park in administration. Thankfully, the much-loved theme park was rescued by Looping Groop in August.
Elsewhere, a new Cars attraction is set to open at Disneyland Paris in 2021.
