A leading Japanese theme park is set to pioneer experiences on its centrepiece rollercoaster.
Built in 1968, the iconic Fujiyama – King of Coasters is no stranger to breaking records. When debuting, it held the title for the world’s tallest rollercoaster (79 metres) and featured the biggest drop at 70 metres.
Housed on the cusp of the breath-taking Mount Fuji, the ground-breaking coaster is ready to make waves in the attractions industry again. The ride is set to be reimagined to become King of Coasters Tower – offering new tantalising attractions including a Sky Deck, Sky Walk and a Tunnel Slide to non-riders.
Reaching the top by an internal elevator, The Sky Deck provides guests with a panoramic viewing point of the stunning Mount Fuji from 55 metres high. Previously the observatory space was only utilised by Fuji-Q Highland officials completing their daily inspection of the rollercoaster. However, due to the spectacular views the theme park ceased the opportunity to create new guest experiences within the space.
The Sky Deck promises the ultimate selfie spot
To enjoy sensational thrills, guests are welcome on the Fujiyama – King of Coasters Slider which catapults guests from the top floor of the Sky Deck to the bottom of the coaster, while immersed on a tube-type slider.
Those fond of testing their dare devil appetite can embark on the Fujiyama – King of Coasters Walk. While wearing protective clothing and harness, guests will immerse on a windy trail along an area of the ride’s tracks. With no handrail or barriers, there will be the strong sense of walking freely – ultimately ramping up the thrills and exhilaration.
Fujiyama – King of Coasters Walk
The pioneering project is expected to cost more than $10 million to complete, with the rollercoaster set to be taken out of action in February 2021 to fit out the new attractions and complete vigorous safety checks.
The rollercoaster is slated to reopen Summer 2021 with the new Tower attractions in place.
Fujiyama – King of Coasters Walk isn’t the only coaster to offer thrill-seekers the chance to walk along the devilish tracks. Blackpool’s Pleasure Beach has launched a series of 2021 dates for visitors to Walk the Big One.
Elsewhere, Mack Rides is set to deliver Europe’s first extreme spinning coaster in Belgium.
