Ground-breaking apps and strategies, how attractions can become COVID safe going forward

COVID 19 has had devastating effects on most industries, none more so than the worldwide attraction sector. As we tackle living in a pandemic world, many visitor experiences have reopened with necessary safety measures in place.

However, the major unprecedented implications of 2020 have meant many attractions have been caught off guard in how to resume operations safely, while providing guests with the same fun, immersive and engaging experience.

This is where our very own COVID 19: Help for Attractions guide helps. Throughout the 24-page E booklet, we showcase the world-renowned companies who have launched ground-breaking apps, systems, and platforms for supporting the safe reopening for attractions.

The brochure provides a one-stop shop for the solutions you may need to ensure your museum, theme park, zoo or family entertainment centre is COVID safe going forward.

Multi-purpose smartphone apps

Particular highlights include Attractions.io, who have created a new social distancing package which facilitates the purchase of digital tickets, online food orders and virtual queues by the use of an easy-to-navigate smartphone app. The platform has already been rolled out across four continents and available is currently available in 10 languages.

Tracking visitor movements

International acclaimed experimental design company Holovis are also pioneering a COVID-safe app, which provides attraction operators with instant alerts into guests’ movements to prevent areas from attracting crowds. Ride popularity statistics, custom insight reports and cashless payment methods have been underlined as add-on features for the app in the future.

Tailored reopening strategies

As we enter a potential second wave of COVID 19, world-leading creatives Conran Design Group collaborated with business transformation consultancy Gate One to introduce effective re-opening strategies to not only minimise risks, but also fully adhere to the brand, culture and company objectives.

Havas Group turned to Conran Design Group to create a branded environment that delivers important safety messaging to create a communications language that is informative, engaging and reassuring to their employees.

The bespoke package offered by Conran Design Group and Gate One has been successfully rolled out to the multinational PR and advertising company Havas Group, which currently employs 1200 people in major offices around the world.

Conran Design Group expects their triumphant ‘Back to Work’ strategies used at Havas Group to be incredibly transferrable to the museum and attraction sector, whether they are looking to ‘Rebuild for the New Normal’ or to ‘Transform for the Future’.

‘WorkSafe with Havas’ is a health and safety brand language with a twist. The creative solution subverts the aesthetic of safety messaging, creating a brand personality which transforms dry, informative messages into a language that captures the attention of employees, conveys empathy with the current situation, whilst supporting Building Services in the management and implementation of safety protocols.

Commenting on how resuming operations strategies can be tailored to the experience sector, Alex Delves-Broughton, Business Development Consultant at Conran Design Group said: “We need to cater for both visitors and staff, keeping them safe and keeping them engaged. Nothing changes from the principles outlined, but during planning, scoping and risk assessment we need to ensure that we are consider how everyone interacts with the space, not just employees.

“In this case the design becomes more important too because you are dealing with people that will visit just once and so needs to be even clearer for populations who may be unfamiliar with the space they are interacting with.”
